A Dream Stay at Hotel Des Indes: Where History Meets Heart
There are moments in life that feel like they’ve been plucked from a dream. For me, one such moment was visiting The Hague—a city I had longed to see for as long as I can remember. But this wasn’t just any visit; I was there to promote my book, which had been published in Dutch. The opportunity to do a book signing in The Hague felt like a fairy tale come true. And what better place to stay than the legendary Hotel Des Indes, a member of the Leading Hotels of the World?
A Grand Entrance
From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I knew this was no ordinary hotel. The opulent decor—gold accents, mahogany wood, rich velvet furnishings—transported me to a bygone era of royalty and elegance. It was like stepping into a palatial residence, and I half-expected to see a butler appear at any moment. The hotel’s central location made it the perfect base for exploring the city. Just a short taxi ride from the central train station, I could easily walk to all the major attractions without getting lost.
My Home Away from Home
My room on the third floor was spacious enough to host a slumber party—if only I had known someone in town! The decor was dark and masculine, but the bed was incredibly plush and comfortable, a hallmark of Starwood hotels. I found myself more captivated by the view than by taking photos of the room. Each morning, I enjoyed a coffee in the lounge, watching the ladies who lunch indulge in afternoon tea. It was a delightful ritual that made me feel like a local.
Exploring The Hague
With the hotel as my starting point, I discovered a city brimming with charm. The Frederikstraat area, just a 10-minute walk from the city center, became my favorite haunt. It’s lined with restaurants, cafes, and gastro pubs frequented by locals—a sure sign of quality. For a sweet treat, I made a beeline to Patisserie Jarreau, where the macarons rival those in Paris. The city is blessed with French pastry chefs, so my sweet tooth was in heaven.
A Stay to Remember
My time at Hotel Des Indes was more than just a hotel stay; it was an experience that added magic to an already special trip. I’m grateful to Starwood Hotels for making this dream stay possible. If you ever find yourself in The Hague, do yourself a favor and check in to Hotel Des Indes. It’s not just a place to sleep—it’s a destination in itself.
This stay was hosted by Starwood Hotels, but all opinions and sweet-tooth indulgences are my own.
